Risks & Challenges
While I have every bit of confidence that this product will be successfully manufactured and shipped out to all our backers once the campaign is completed, there is always the possibility that we could run into problems that may lead to delays or in the absolute worse case scenario, no product being made. While that worse case scenarios is highly unlikely, since it is a still technically a possibility I feel it should be expressed here in the “Risks & Challenges” section. Here are the three most common challenges that face any crowdfunded project involving manufacturing.
The manufacturer we’ve chosen to produce our product has been around for over 30-years and is know as a leader in bathroom and kitchen fixture production. That being said, manufacturing can require some expensive trial and error, especially in the cost of creating tooling or molds.
We have worked through many design changes and are now on version number 9. These prototypes have been 3D printed and tested with amazing results. While we think that this will translate seamlessly into a production ready product there is still the chance that we could need another revision to work out any bugs. Our engineer can now work with our manufacturers engineers in determining this. It is still possible that unpredictable problems with the design could come up and create another hurdle to overcome. However we feel confident after designing this product in SolidWorks, the industry standard in computer design software, and creating and testing multiple 3D prints using the highest quality extremely high resolution selective laser sintering printers, that we’ve minimized this risk to the level that any company can and certainly better than any product could have been manufactured just 10-years ago.
Unlikely, but this is a small team, and it’s always possible that something could happen to one of us. That said, we have a team precisely so create strength beyond what any one of us could create. In the event of something getting in the way of one us completing the project, we are all committed to pulling together, taking up the slack, and ensuring this project gets done.
